European Triathlon Champs 2013
A couple of weeks ago I raced as an age grouper in the Euro champs in Alanya, Turkey. Since coming back I’ve been busy catching up after taking only a handful of days away from work. I’ve also been mulling over what happened, how I’m performing and what to change. The venue was pretty good.…

Cosmeston Sprint Triathlon 2013
Nope, not racing this weekend! I took photos this morning at the club’s Cosmeston Sprint Triathlon. A beautiful location, an altered bike course, and a fair bit chillier this year. Have a look at the Flickr set. Well done all for completing this, especially the fella that almost gave up near shore. Big effort!

Deva Triathlon 2013
Oh dear. They say you learn more from your bad races than from your good ones, so I’ll try to do that here. The Deva Triathlon up in Chester was a World Age Group Triathlon Championships qualifier, and as we have a home World Champs this year, and a home World Champs on the Olympic…

TTG Gloucester Triathlon 2013
The first race is in the bag! It was good to get that out of the way, and great fun on a sunny day in Gloucestershire. The TTG Gloucester Tri is a sprint distance race starting athletes off in a 25m pool at 1 minute intervals, so it feels like a time trial. It was…

Stupid
I am such an idiot. Stupid, stupid, stupid. You’d think I’d know better by now. While I’ve been looking after my bikes fairly well recently I’ve been putting off replacing the pedals on my main road bike. They’re second hand and the left pedal’s tension bolt hex socket has rounded off, so I can’t tighten…

Gadgets
I bought a new set of scales and they say I am heavier than I thought I was. I bought a new gadget to measure my sleep and it says I don’t sleep as well as I thought I did. I bought a new power meter and today’s test says I don’t put out as…

How to stay warm on the bike
Another cold snap has hit us when we were getting used to the idea of some milder weather and the roadside flowers of spring. From Twitter and whatnot I get the impression that people not used to riding through a winter are riding their bikes and struggling a little with the cold. Morning temperatures are…

Triathlon training in Wales
Training over the last couple of weeks has reinforced to me how great it can be to live in Wales, particularly if you get your arse out there to see it. The tides have been high in the mornings making the ride out onto the Gower particularly scenic and encouraging me to warm down after…

Swansea Health Solutions supporting me in 2013
Swansea Health Solutions will be supporting me again in my triathlon season for 2013. If you follow this blog you’ll know that Gareth has kept me together physically for 4 or 5 years now, and one of the main reasons I can train the way I do is because of the way that he looks…
