Tiger Unleashed

Apple’s latest version of their Mac OS X operating system, named Tiger, has been given a release date of just a couple of weeks away: Friday April 29th.
Although this is something I’ve been looking forward to, I can’t say it seems to offer much that I want or need (unlike the last version, Panther, which gave superb improvements if you have a small notebook). I won’t be shelling out £89 for an advance order. Instead I’ll hang around and see how the other kids get on with it. They may find aspects other than the new search system (Spotlight) and widgets (Dashboard) more useful.
Quicktime 7 might prompt me, as it’s rumoured to be at the heart of a future Mac based home media centre, and brings with it the H.264 codec that will be used in high definition movie media (HD-DVD, Blue Ray).
