Well this is different. I’m on the train at Swansea, but I’m not sweaty & I don’t have my bike. It feels strange. I’m travelling to Cardiff for the day to meet up with the guys from the old lab for food & a few beers. Let’s hope I get the right train home &…

  • New connections

    by

    in

Back in Cardiff we’d been using NTL ever since cable TV appeared. We picked up phone and TV services from them, and later a broadband internet connection. They’re not a terrible company, and their services were good, but now we’ve moved we get to review the marketplace. So phone service went to BT, because you…

  • The stomach for it

I forgot to mention the other day, but since reducing work related stress and my blood pressure began to fall, my indigestion irks have also dropped off. I seem to be able to drink red wine again, something I haven’t been able to do for ages. Sunday lunches with beer are no longer painful. Relaaaaax.

We’ve been moved in for a week now, and it’s feeling pretty good. So good that I thought I’d check my blood pressure. Before I started work at Swansea University my blood pressure had always been normal. My physical check up before starting measured it at 120/60, and why not? I’ve always been fit and…

  • Moved

We’ve moved. We’re now residents of Gowerton. It was a pain shifting all our stuff, especially as one after another we all picked up diarrhoea and nausea. Nice. Massive thanks to everyone that helped us move – we couldn’t have done it alone. We’re surrounded by boxes, but the piles are getting shorter. We have…

  • Utility Companies

One of those moving house jobs is ringing around all of your utility companies to let them know you’re moving. There’s gas, electricity, phone, cable TV, TV license, broadband, council tax, banks, credit cards, mobile phones, etc. It’s a long list, and it must be one of the major enquiries that companies receive. So you’d…

  • Goodbye, train

    by

    in

Wow – today might be the last time I commute to work by train. We’re supposed to move house on Friday, & for the rest of the week I’ll either be at home packing or driving between Cardiff & Swansea transporting things. It feels a little strange to think about losing a defining part of…

Real-time animation from motion capture. I want one! It would be great in the Anatomy Lab.

  • Swansea University Best For Student Experience

    by

    in

Wow – The University of Wales Swansea (my university) has just been voted top for student experience in the Times Higher Education Supplement. I think that’s 1st place out of 170 institutions. Blimey, those students just love it here.

  • SAND Day 3

Ha. At the science animation day yesterday the Taliesin auditorium had only a few dozen people for the later presentations. Today, a guy from EA Games is talking & I can barely get a seat. EA are moving toward the next generation of gaming by pulling in animators from Disney & ILM. Eamon Butler, a…
